You've now seen Martha in her initial full season - her meeting with the Doctor, her becoming a 'real' companion (rather than a passenger), and her decision to leave.

Tell us what you think of Martha. Results may be published in our club newsletter Data Extract (space allowing!).

We also encourage you to make comment. A selection of the best comments will also be published in Data Extract, including the 'comment of the month'.

Try to keep your comments concise and spoiler free as possible. (Up to five lines is ideal for editing responses for the magazine.)

BONUS POLL OF THE MONTH: OCTOBER

What did you think of Martha - and why?

She seemed pretty avereage to me. There wasn't anything new about her.
She went through some of the exact same scenes as Rose ("I don't even know who he is")
She didn't use her doctor knowledge at all or make any lame puns to suit her profession.
Her family was pretty similar to Roses, only a little less bogan.
And she wanted to be with the Doctor too.

But she wasn't a bad companion. Definitely better than Mel.
And Adric.

When she wasn't busy admitting her love to the Doctor, I thought she was pretty okay.

Yesterday I found something I wrote last year after finding out about Martha being the new companion. I knew nothing about her at the time other than what she looked like. I just randomly wrote this at school when I was bored and trying to get over the fact that Rose had gone. I would like to share it with you now (warning - it's pretty immature):

"Hello, I'm stupid Martha Jones. I feel nothing towards the Doctor and I never will. He only holds my hand when we're running away from monsters. I have a stupid hairstyle, a stupid leather jacket and a stupid name. I try to look tough but I'm just an idiot. At least Rose was open. The Doctor and I will never kiss and I will never declare love to him. Rose is much braver and smarter and more beautiful than me. I have no life and no family. And I can assure you that I will appear in each episode for more than 5 minutes, then again maybe that's not such a good thing".

That last line was me having a go at Love & Monsters, btw. Well, it's interesting how much of that came true and how much came back and bit me in the arse.

I believe Freema Ageyman played the role perfectly and Martha stands as one of my favourite companions-in contrast to previous views I'm sure Wink

Martha risked her life and inspired faith in The Doctor. I'm also pleased she became her own woman in the end and stepped out of The Doctor's shadow.

In series 4 we will see a stronger Martha Jones and one who has established her own exsitance outside the TARDIS.

I thought Martha was great and an interesting contrast to Rose.

I think having a slightly older character who is at a different stage of her life (ie. on the verge of graduating as a Doctor) was a good move too! I enjoyed seeing the development of her relationship with the Doctor, which was a significant contrast to the Doctor-Rose dynamic. While I was sad to see her depart (at least temporarily), her departure made perfect sense in the context of her story! I also enjoyed her relationship to her family which, again, was quite different to Rose, Mickey and the Tyler gang!

Congratulations to Freema too for successfully taking on the role in the shadow of Billie Piper.

I look forward to seeing what RTD does with the return of Donna who, once again, will be a very different companion to both Rose and Martha! Once again, 'Doctor Who' proves its ability to thrive despite cast changes!

I thought Martha was an interesting change to Rose, especially in her ability to think on her feet and more logically. However, I was hoping that the character wouldn't be another one swooning after the Doctor, although the jealously element was played skillfully. At least Martha wasn't a screamer like Donna!

I still wish Sally Sparrow was written in to replace Martha rather than a certain other returning character in the upcoming series. Now that would be a top 10 companion!

Smiles, Izzy

Couldn't agree with you more Izzy!!

Martha definately makes it into my top ten companions. Much nicer to look at than Rose.

Shame she isn't hanging around permanently.

I liked that Martha was very inquisitive, and kept pushing when the Doctor tried to sidestep an issue, like in Gridlock.

Martha got better the longer she was there. I thought she was great in the season 4 stories I have seen so far, Sontarans and Doctors Daughter.
