I watched this while doing other things so I didn't (re-watch it when I can) really catch all of it. At the end of the show doesn't Jenny say, "I will travel in Time & Space" ...how can she do this if the vehicle she took off in is only a rocket ...did I miss something and this is another Tardis, and we may see more of Jenny later?
thanks |

I thought it was because the TARDIS sensed a Gallifreyan, and sought them out. As for the hand, I don't know why it's still in the TARDIS or why Jack didn't take it back with him.
I really enjoyed this episode. Alien planet - check. Aliens - check. Action - check. It got my heart pumping and a smile on my face.
I actually liked Donna's wise-cracks (GI-Jane, Rambo etc.), and I like how they were able to use her background as a temp to give her something useful to do.
I didn't like Jenny at first, but like the Doctor, I warmed to her. I liked that she got a chance to travel (she didn't say in time, just in space, right?), and it doesn't matter if she doesn't come back. Also, didn't her "death" scene just scream Last of the Time Lords?
I'm getting so sick of the Doctor telling everyone about the Time War. It's almost as bad as Martha telling everyone how much she loves the Doctor. Speaking of which, I thought Martha was going to be in way more episodes this series.
One thing I do not like - that Donna said she's going to travel with the Doctor forever. That's Rose's line - how dare she take it!
That's all from me. |

Found it funny when Donna called Jenny, GI Jane.
Also funny when the Doctor said "Over My Dead Body" in regards to a dictionary entry for genocide.
After thinking about it, I understand why Martha had to be separated from the Doctor and Donna in this episode - as a reminder why she can't go back travelling with the Doctor again especially when that Hath died to save her life. Liked the bit earlier on when all the Hath were touching Martha.
Was disappointed that Donna didn't say Time Lady when she asked what a female Time Lord was called as well as no mention of Susan as I would have like to have had a reference to her in this episode.
Like the bit with the toy mouse.
Georgia Moffett was very good as Jenny, the title character (not to mention she is one in real-life) so it was very sad when she got shot. Very emotional last moments between the Doctor and Jenny. Also like when she went through the laser beams.
Very tense moment when Doctor held a gun at Cobb's head.
What a surprise Jenny is alive at the end (after the Doctor, Martha and Donna had gone). Wonder what new adventures awaits for her?
Confidential Cutdown: Sins of the Fathers:
Nice to see director Alice Troughton here. Although it was her first Doctor Who, The Doctor's Daughter is her seventh Whoniverse episode after Torchwood's Small Worlds & Out of Time and the first two Sarah Jane Adventures two parters.
Interesting the sequence with the laser beams.
Georgia at the moment is a regular in Spooks: Code 9:

This episode again got a very mixed reaction from me. Maybe Series 4 is to be like this. Hit and miss to me. Not that the episode was bad or anything, but this one just did not quite hit the spot for me.
With this first first viewing, I felt that it was so full of cliches and the Doctor actually was a bit of a smart arse and came across a tad arrogant I must say. I as thinking am I watching Doctor Who or Doctor House? But still, it's Tennant, and he always has a redeeming charm to him anyway. But I agree with the earlier comment here about it being a bit Hollywood.
Jenny was good, but again I felt like they were rushing our relationship with her. I suppose that may equate to the rushed relationship the Doctor was to form with her anyway, but she just seemed so unlike him really to be an offshoot from him. She was too Baby Spice for me, but gosh she looks like her real dad that it was a little freaky. They say her pedigree had nothing to do with casting, but it does leave one to wonder anyway. She was still great though, but the blondy thing just did not do it for me. Though I love how she could argue with him. You would think that she should be able to put up a reasonably good argument given her origins. Interesting to hear that the Doctor has been a dad himself on Gallifrey. Most interesing. But is that new or very old news here? I am only just getting back into Doctor Who after a long absence But the emotions at the end were a bit melodramtic. The Doctor may have had a case of Deja Vue (typical for a Timelord though ) as the speech when she left was not unlike the one where he lost the Master. That speech was great the first time, but it felt a bit much this time given he short time we had to establish a relationship with the character.
Mmmm, I gave it a 4, but if there was a 3.5 on offer, that would be my pick. I just hope that she does not end up in a spin off targeted as a Timelord for Tweenagers. That would be a worry. But she also reminded me a tad of a female Ace Rimmer taking off in that rocket at the end as well. Not necessarily good thing for Doctor Who though.
I did love the two parter the previous weeks though. This just seemed to be one of those miscellaneous episodes that could have been further developed if they had the time to extend it bit more. |

In the Series Two episode Fear Her, the Doctor told Rose that he had been a dad once.
Then of course there's the questionable origins of Susan, who was the Doctor's original companion and meant to be his granddaughter. |

Thank you for that . I did wonder of there had been a earlier reference. It has been a long time since I saw Series 2, and a long time since I have seen the earlier series Doctor Who. I am having to do a bit of catching up. |

There's nothing questionable about Susan being the Doctor's granddaughter, other than in the minds of some fans. Even after Susan had left the TARDIS and Ian and Barbara were gone, the Doctor spoke of Susan as being his granddaughter (he asked his companion Steven whether he thought new companion Dodo looked like his granddaughter, even though Steven had never seen her!). |

OK.. this episode was absolute bollocks.. in fact, pretty much this season (except the sontarans) have been absoulte bollocks.
For a start, this episode was clearly merely designed to set up a future episode in which Jenny plays a part in it (please note, this is no spoiler, i'm merely speculating here) - OK, that is fair enough, but please - the episode was terrible. The only part of the plot that was vaguely interesting was the whole hundred generations in a week thing, but hey even that was passed over.
This season so far has been totally mediocre, which is really dissapointing as last season I was completely glued to my seat. Catherine Tate does surprisingly well, but what is with all the soppy dialogue - it's almost embarassing to watch. I thought the Ood story was dissapointing, but this was one even worse.
I'll hope it improves next week - all of the new series have improved dramatically in the second half so hopefully this continues. |

I do tend to agree with you actually, but you're a lot more blunt than me Series 3 was amazing and seasons 1-2 were great to keep building it all up with some really good stories and I remember (though vaguely though) that it was really entertaining. I have started rewatching the new Dr Who from Eccleston now. Series 4 has been really hit and miss for me. I am hanging out for a Steven Moffat scripted one though. It is supposed to be coming up soon. |
