Tomorrow night on 7 at 9:30 is a new program called Distant Shores starring Peter Davison himself. In a similar vein to Doc Martin apparently, ie, disgruntled doctor moves to coastal town from big city London, becomes the local GP there, thinks everyone is an idiot except him, etc.

As if seeing him in Complete Guide to Parenting wasn't enough. Not that I am complaining.

I found Distant Shores better than Complete Guide to Parenting.

There were two seasons of Distant Shores with six episodes each and 7 is showing the series in double episodes meaning the series will be finished on the first Saturday of February.

As well as Peter Davison other people who appeared in the world of Doctor Who that appeared in Distant Shores so far in the first two episodes were:
Samantha Bond (the not yet aired on Australian TV, Invasion of the Bane) playing Davison's wife, John Woodvine (The Armageddon Factor) and appearing in episode 2 Gareth Thomas (Ghost Machine; also Storm Warning & the first two Dalek Empire series from Big Finish).

Quite clever that the title not only refer to a change of environment but also to the family's name Shore. Although not exactly like them, anyone who enjoyed the Braithwaites should enjoy the Shores.

It was interesting in the beginning that the girl patient says the "surgeon who" instead of the "doctor who" in reference to the character played by Davison! (even though he insists on being called Mister not Doctor).

Season 1, Episodes 3 and 4:
One thing have to say about the character that Peter plays here is that he gets to be called Doctor even though this is not Doctor Who.
Peter's character here has something in common with his character in Complete Guide to Parenting in that they both have problems dealing with their sons.
In the third episode I liked how Bill got along with that girl.
In the fourth episode Gideon was played by Struan Rodger. Rodger would later work with Peter Davison again in the final episode of The Last Detective. Rodger has actually done a Who as he is the voice of The Face of Boe.
Wow using a lawsuit to get a date. I never heard that before.
The town sure has a peculiar way of paying off bills and wages.
Ooh what an ending to the fourth episode.

Saw the last two episodes of season 1 and it ended marvellously.

Season 2 however will not start next week due to the tennis.

I don't know whether 7 will be showing season 2 anytime soon but Hallmark will definitely be showing it.
Hallmark like 7 showed the the series in double episodes and they broadcast it shortly after the episodes were aired on 7.
Hallmark will begin season 2 tonight with the usual double episodes at 6:30pm with repeats tomorrow at 10am.
Hallmark will complete showing the series on February 9.

Season 2, Episodes 1 and 2:
An interesting start to the second season.
Funniest moment was when Kate put Harvey out of the house as she was talking to a boy.
The biggest surprise from the second of the two episodes could have remained a surprise if it wasn't given away by Hallmark when they included that scene in an ad during the ad breaks.

Season 2, Episodes 3 and 4:
Things are really taking an interesting turn as the series reaches its end.

Episode 4 featured the appearance of Steven Pacey who has done a Who in the forthcoming Eighth Doctor Big Finish story The Zygon Who Fell To Earth. Pacey was Tarrant in Blake's 7 and in Distant Shores he joined fellow Blake's 7 alumni, Blake himself Gareth Thomas on that show. Thomas and Pacey are among the the Blake's 7 regular cast members to have appeared in the Doctor Who universe in whatever media.

Finished seeing Distant Shores on Hallmark. Quite sombre but a surprising twist towards the end.

If the second season ever comes on 7 I will let people know unless someone beats me to it.

For those who did not see the second and final season on Hallmark since the broadcast of the first season on 7, 7 is broadcasting the second season very quickly this week across two days. The first three episodes are shown together at 12pm Thursday June 26, the last three at the same time on the next day Friday June 27.
