Here's one for Simm's Master - Blood Makes Noise by Suzanne Vega.

I'd like to help you doctor
Yes I really really would
But the din in my head
It's too much and it's no good
I'm standing in a windy tunnel
Shouting through the roar
And I'd like to give the information
You're asking for

But blood makes noise
It's a ringing in my ear
Blood makes noise
And I can't really hear you
In the thickening of fear

I think that you might want to know
The details and the facts
But there's something in my blood
Denies the memory of the acts
So just forget it Doc.
I think it's really
Cool that you're concerned
But we'll have to try again
After the silence has returned

Cause blood makes noise
It's a ringing in my ear
Blood makes noise
And I can't really hear you
In the thickening of fear

Blood makes noise...

I was listening to my Delta Goodrem album today, and this song came on that was just screaming Doctor/Rose. It's called Brave Face:

Put your brave face on
The one you wore when you stole my heart
Won't you hold my hand
We'll jump together into anything that could possibly happen

'Cause we're still so young
Ask me to dance in this hotel room
Then let's get out of here
And hit the airport with nothing but a carry on between us

You take my over analyse away
It's you and me against the world today

Feels like I'm running with my high heels on
And they're chasing us waiting for it to all go wrong
You're my umbrella against their sticks and stones
As long as we keep smiling, they'll never know
Put your brave face on
Put your brave face on

It's clear blue skies
Flying 30,000 feet above
No one can touch us
'Cause we're so in love
Look into my eyes
Meet me there don't look down

Feels like I'm running with my high heels on
And they're chasing us waiting for it to all go wrong
You're my umbrella against their sticks and stones
As long as we keep smiling, they'll never know
Put your brave face on
Put your brave face on

You take my over anaylse away
It's you and me against the world today

Feels like I'm running with my high heels on
And they're chasing us waiting for it to all go wrong
You're my umbrella against their sticks and stones
As long as we keep smiling, they'll never know
Put your brave face on
Put your brave face on

I love this song - For You by The Calling. It's a great 9/Rose song, showing how the Doctor felt after the Time War and how Rose saved him.

I am a vision
I am justice
Never thought that I could love
Living in shadows
Fading existence
It was never good enough
Within the darkness
You are the light that shines the way
But you're trapped in violence
I can be the man who saves the day

I'm there for you
No matter what
I'm there for you
Never giving up
I'm there for you
For You

Someone's changed me
Something's saved me
And this is who I am
Although I was blinded
My heart let me find out
That truth makes a better man
I didn't notice
That you were right in front of me
Our masks of silence
We'll put away so we can see

I'm there for you
No matter what
I'm there for you
Never giving up
I'm there for you
For You

Within the darkness
You are the light that shines a way
In this blind justice
I can be that man who saves the day

I'm there for you
No matter what
I'm there for you
Never giving up
Cause you know it's true
You were there for me
And I'm there for you
For you
For you
For you

This is a beautiful song. And just like the last one, it shows how Rose gave the Doctor a reason to live. It's In Her Eyes by Josh Groban.

She stares through my shadow
She sees something more
Believes there's a light in me
She is sure
And her truth makes me stronger
Does she realise
I awake every morning
With her strength by my side

I am not a hero
I am not an angel
I am just a man
Man who's trying to love her
Unlike any other
In her eyes I am

This world keeps on spinning
Only she steals my heart
She's my inspiration
She's my northern star
I don't count my possession
All I call mine and give her completely
To the end of all time

I am not a hero
I am not an angel
I am just a man
Man who's trying to love her
Unlike any other
In her eyes I am

In her eyes I see the sky and all I'll ever need
In her eyes time passes by and she is with me

I am not a hero
I am not an angel
I am just a man
Man who's trying to love her
Unlike any other
In her eyes I am
In her eyes I am

Unfortunately only part of this song works. It's for good ol' Martha, and how the Doctor feels about her:

And all I can do is keep on telling you
I want you
I need you
But there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you
Now don't be sad
'Cause two out of three ain't bad
Now don't be sad
'Cause two out of three ain't bad

Hehe I'm so evil. Yep, it's Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad by Meat Loaf.

I've seen this one used quite a few times in Doctor/Martha fanfics and fanvids (one way Doctor/Martha, that is). It's I'm Not That Girl from that musical Wicked:

Hands touch, eyes meet
Sudden silence, sudden heat
Hearts leap in a giddy whirl
He could be that boy
But I'm not that girl

Don't dream too far
Don't lose sight of who you are
Don't remember that rush of joy
He could be that boy
I'm not that girl

Ev'ry so often we long to steal
To the land of what-might-have-been
But that doesn't soften the ache we feel
When reality sets back in

Blithe smile, lithe limb
She who's winsome, she wins him
Gold hair with a gentle curl
That's the girl he chose
And Heaven knows
I'm not that girl

Don't wish, don't start
Wishing only wounds the heart
I wasn't born for the rose and the pearl
There's a girl I know
He loves her so
I'm not that girl...

Come on, "golden hair with a gentle curl" - that is so Rose...

Okay, this isn't a song - it's one of Shakespeare sonnets. I thought Sonnet 130 about the Dark Lady has a striking resemblance to a certain dark lady Shakespeare met in Doctor Who...

My mistress's eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lip's red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun,
If hair be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
In some perfumes there is more delight
Than the breath with which my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know,
Music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground.
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

Now here's the Doctor's favourite sonnet - Sonnet 109:

O! never say that I was false of heart,
Though absence seem'd my flame to qualify,
As easy might I from my self depart
As from my soul which in thy breast doth lie:
That is my home of love: if I have ranged,
Like him that travels, I return again;
Just to the time, not with the time exchanged,
So that myself bring water for my stain.
Never believe though in my nature reigned,
All frailties that besiege all kinds of blood,
That it could so preposterously be stained,
To leave for nothing all thy sum of good;
For nothing this wide universe I call,
Save thou, my rose, in it thou art my all.

As you'd know by now, I was not a fan of The Girl in the Fireplace. But I do like this song, and I think it's great to describe Reinette's feelings during that episode. And then there's the title - Sophia (pronounced 'so-fire'), perfect for a woman whose real name is Sophia. So here it is - Sophia by Nerina Pallot.

5 o' clock and a fire escape symphony,
Spilling out across the road and the square,
And the sky's the same as your own, do you think of me?
Do the parks, and trees, and the leaves, reach you, there?
After the rain, in the lonely hours he haunts me, calling out,
Again and again

Sophia, Sophia, I'm burning, I'm burning
It's a fire, it's a fire, I cannot put out,
Sophia, Sophia, I'm learning that some things,
I can't go without and one of those is him

And now I walk these streets like a stranger in my home town,
Learn the language, form the words when I speak,
But he changed me, I'm his ghost since he came around,
And now I count the hours and the days in the weeks.

Passion and silence,
Every word, every time, a measure,
It's the science of the soul,
And his books, they breathe a reason and now I want to know...

Sophia, Sophia, I'm burning, I'm burning,
It's a fire, it's a fire, I cannot put out,
Sophia, Sophia, I'm learning that some things,
I can't go without and one of those is him

And you, with your new born eyes,
Have you ever loved a man like I love him?
Do you hurt, but still feel alive
Like never before?
Oh Sophia! Sophia!

Sophia, Sophia, I’m burning, I’m burning
It’s a fire, a fire I cannot put out.
Sophia, Sophia, I’m learning that some things
I can’t go without
I can’t go without him.

Whenever I hear Don't Stand So Close To Me by The Police, it always reminds me of Martha's longing to be with the Doctor, and his reluctance...

Young teacher, the subject
Of schoolgirl fantasy
She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there's longing
This girl's an open page
Book marking - she's so close now
This girl is half his age

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Her friends are so jealous
You know how bad girls get
Sometimes it's not so easy
To be the teacher's pet
Temptation, frustration
So bad it makes him cry
Wet bus stop, she's waiting
His car is warm and dry

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use, he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
That book by Nabokov

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me

I always thought Kelly Clarkson's Beautiful Disaster was great for Rose's thoughts about the Doctor - but I reckon it works even better for Martha.

He drowns in his dreams
An exquisite extreme I know
He’s as damned as he seems
And more heaven than a heart could hold
And if I try to save him
My whole world could cave in
It just ain't right
It just ain't right

Oh and I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster

He's magic and myth
As strong as what I believe
A tragedy with
More damage than a soul should see
But do I try to change him?
So hard not to blame him
Hold on tight
Hold on tight

Oh 'cause I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he’s so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster

I'm longing for love and the logical
But he's only happy hysterical
I'm waiting for some kind of miracle
Waited so long
So long

He’s soft to the touch
But frayed at the end he breaks
He’s never enough
And still he's more than I can take

Oh 'cause I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster

He’s beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster

This is a German song, but I've got translated lyrics. It's called Vom Selben Stern (i.e. From the Same Star) by Ich + Ich, and I reckon it's just perfect for the Doctor and the Master:

Get up, get dressed
Now it's time for other ghosts
I take away your pain
I take away your pain
Open the window, turn up the volume
The last ice is melted
I take away your pain
I take away your pain

We're all made from stardust
In our eyes, a warm brightness
We are not broken yet
We are whole

You are from the same star
I can hear your heartbeat
You are from the same star
As me
'Cause the same voice controls you
And you are suspended from the same thread
'Cause you think the same
As me

Dance through your room, take off
Dance through the streets, dance through the city
I take away your pain
I take away your pain
Let us draw our pathways together
We'll fly over Berlin today
I take away your pain
I take away your pain

We're all made from stardust
In our eyes, a warm brightness
We are not broken yet
We are whole

You are from the same star
I can hear your heartbeat
You are from the same star
As me
'Cause the same voice controls you
And you are suspended from the same thread
'Cause you think the same
As me

I take away your pain
I take away your pain

You are from the same star
I can hear your heartbeat
You are from the same star
As me
'Cause the same voice controls you
And you are suspended from the same thread
'Cause you think the same
As me

Listening to Coldplay's Viva la Vida the other day, I was wondering whether or not it could be used to describe the Master's brief reign over Earth. Then one particular lyric clenched the deal. I've put it in bold, though you should be able to figure it out:

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemies eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt, and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
Once you know there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world
(Ohhh)

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People could not believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries Wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
(Ohhhhh Ohhh Ohhh)

Hear Jerusalem bells are ringings
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh
