We probably pay less attention to who writes for Torchwood than we do for the original program. Or maybe it's just me?
Have a look at the list below of who wrote what and let us know who your favourite writer for the 2nd series of Torchwood was - and please let us know why! |

Maybe! DW is our natural roosting ground AND the bigger of the two series, so I guess we just naturally pay more attention to it.
It's true though, cos when the series 2 writers were announced in DWM, I couldn't have cared less... apart from Joseph Lidster, who's been a stalwart of Big Finish for a while now. I was anticipating his episode quite a lot, figuring it'd be some sort of emotion-based plot like most of his plays. An investigation of a character!
This ended up being what he did, and it was great, and it was Owen, which was even better (I'm the mad freak who likes Owen). One of the best-written eps of the season, if not the best. |

I've gone for P J Hammond (no surprise, really, as I selected From Out of the Rain as my favourite episode).
Here's the thing - Hammond's episodes are like Torchwood, only different. They are out of kilter with the other episodes (and this year's was the better of the two), and by being included they help define what Torchwood really is.
I love a story of a mysterious circus, I'm not sure why. (I also hate stories about scary clowns, which may seem a bit contradictory!) Check out my DVD collection, you'll find Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Circus of Dr Lao and Carnivale snuggled away among other less circus-oriented offerings.
The spooky aspects are not all this story is about; it also gives us an insight into what Jack has been doing in the past - and an act where he shoots himself in the head on a nightly basis is probably an example of him having sunk very low.
I wouldn't mind an increased number of Hammond-scripted episodes in each series of Torchwood. I've got no great knowledge of the comparative ages and experience of the writers for tis series, but I get the impression that Hammond is older, and hence brings a different background to the writing. It's a good thing, as it adds a depth to the series simply by there being a different approach to some episodes over others. |

I chose Joseph Lidster for A Day In The Death.
I'm a really big fan of Joe's Big Finish stories, they always have an unnerving darkness about them. He's fit that format very well into the Sapphire and Steel audios and Torchwood is the perfect place for it too. I'd LOVE to see Joe write a Dr Who tv script, that would be something completely different to anything we have seen as yet.
For some other great Joe Lidster stories have a listen to Doctor Who: Master and Sapphire and Steel: Daisy Chain. |
