The Last Detective on October 21 gets four stars from Who Magazine and it is its highlight of the day with this flattering description of Peter:
"He was once the fifth incarnation of intrepid Doctor Who, but Peter Davison has aged nicely into the role of Det Const "Dangerous" Davies."

Three Steps to Hendon:
1977 is displayed on-screen. Coincidentally 1977 was also displayed on-screen in The Professionals episode When The Heat Cools Off which I saw on UKTV just before The Last Detective came on. One difference though, 1977 in The Professionals took place as a contemporary event while here in The Last Detective it took place in the past.
Helen Bourne (Pathologist) is very attractive.
Overall didn't really like this episode.

Willesden Confidential:
After Lynda Bellingham in The Long Bank Holiday comes Kevin Doyle another of Peter's co-stars from At Home With The Braithwaites appearing in The Last Detective.
Here his character attempted suicide unsuccessfully by having the garage door closed so he could suffocate from a car engine. Coincidentally a character died from such means in the House season 2 finale No Reason which was on 10 just three nights previously.
Eerie that on the same night that his character Alan Kingwell tried to kill himself was the same night that Geoff Fallon who killed Kingwell's youngest son in a hit and run got killed in a car race.
Love the bit when Mod drove the car in the race track and Julie's comment about being debriefed on the way home.
Although the identity of the killer wasn't obvious to me it did not come as a surprise.
That was a very lovely last scene of the episode with Dangerous and Julie.

Apparently the next episode has not yet been shown in the UK, which means that like Afterlife season 1 we Aussie viewers will be seeing it before British viewers.

I'm surprised you didn't pick up on Jamie Foreman's appearance. (don't want to give too much away about his role, though... ). Razz

Jamie Foreman is, of course, known to us all as Eddie Connolly in The Idiot's Lantern. Wink

I was trying to see if anybody was reading what I posted. Actually I am kidding. To be honest I only realised it was him when I had a look at the cover of Volume 3 of the 2006 season which I only bought earlier that day. Very Happy

I agree about the killer - The Last Detective seems to me to have a feeling of "I didn't expect it, but it doesn't surprise me", doesn't it? It's not a bad show - just a bit mundane at times.

That said, Davison always steals the show.

I didn't pick up Jamie Forman either. His hair was so different... that's my lame excuse.

Once Upon A Time On The Westway:
As I said before this episode has been shown to us Aussie viewers ahead of British viewers.
I recognise the old woman that Dangerous talked to in the beginning as the one who talked to Daffyd about the only copy of Gay Times in Little Britain.
So surprise to see Camille Coduri in this episode.
Funny when Julie kicks Mod out.
So knew that the beating that Dangerous stumbled into was an act.
Jimmy's book was called Life Sentence. Not exactly an imaginative title.
Horrified that Mod got attacked.
Surprised that Dangerous mentioned the cone of silence.
Very funny when Dangerous and Julie got Mod out of the hospital.
So knew the ice machine was significant to the plot.
Like the last scene of Dangerous, Julie and Mod playing cards.

Next Week: What indeed is in that film?

Camille Coduri was in it? God, I should have watched it really. I was busy reading The Crooked World. Silly me.

Dangerous Liasions:
Oh my it's Doctor Who meets Battlestar Galactica as Jamie Bamber (Apollo in BSG) guest stars. However Peter is not the first Doctor that he has worked with as he also worked with Paul McGann in Hornblower.
Also surprise to see Celia Imrie as well.
Love seeing Mod as a dalmatian and funny when Dangerous pointed out the "No Dogs Allowed" sign. Also funny is Mod with the mirror and saying that his new girlfriend is a fox since she dressed up as a fox when they first met.

I'm very surprised that no one noticed another star actress in the first episode of this season. To anyone who had read about Davison's family will know of his daughter Georgia Moffett who also does acting makes an appearance in this episode, and is at one point chatting to him about his job and nickname at the party.

Although some of you might remember her as Abigail Nixon from the Bill during the 'Nixon fiasco'.

Here is a bit of trivia, in 1981 The Last Detective was made into a film, about the Celia Norris case.It just so happens that Colin Baker features in it playing someone called William Lind.

Yes I have been told that was Georgia Moffett but didn't know it was her at the time.

Season 4, Episode 3:
Roy Hudd (Bunny) had appeared in the Colin Baker Big Finish story Pier Pressure (which I haven't listened to). In fact Pier Pressure writer Robert Ross joked that Roy Hudd is the 11th Doctor since Ross' previous story Medicinal Purposes featured one David Tennant.
Judging from his performance here in The Last Detective I don't think Hudd would make a bad Doctor.
Amazing how Bunny got to have all those women including a lesbian.
It was nice to see Mrs Fulljames again after all this time.
Really did not expect to see a gaybar not to mention Mod's reaction to it.
Really didn't see the point of the Human Cargo plot.
Poor Mod as he makes his less than impressive comic standup debut.

That was probably the best episode in ages. I agree that the Human Cargo bit was pointless though - I forgot about it until you mentioned it in fact.

I loved the scenes where Davison was talking to all of Bunny's lovers in a montage... his facial expressions were hilarious. Mod too was used the best I've seen for a while. Great stuff.

The Man from Montevideo:
Kapoor wears a soccer outfit. Nice to see her finally wear something other than her police uniform.
Very funny, when Dangerous got out of the cab realising he has take another form of transport.
Also funny, Larry the lamb in Dangerous' car.
I think it is amazing that Karen Horner still works, kept all the money sent to her by her ex-husband and did not spent any of it. What a saving for a rainy day.
Brief female nudity - what a surprise that is.

Next week is the season finale or is it the series finale (have no idea which it is).

The Dead Peasants Society:
Surprise to see at the beginning playing the waitress Vicky Hall who is Lindsay in Teachers. A very pleasant surprise.

Funnily enough Leslie Phillips (Robertson) appeared in Medicinal Purposes. Also interesting is that he is mentioned being a Brigadier.
Rose is very pretty and Kitty is not so bad looking either.
Surprised when that woman investigative journalist revealed herself to be John Fletcher. She made me think of Sarah Jane Smith until we found out about her true nature.
Shocking to see Ray's name on that list but more shocking when he got stabbed.
Funny when Dangerous threw stuff off his desk, then leaving the office and then coming back in to put them back on the desk.
Had a little laugh when Ray said to Dangerous "What do you know about doctors?" Of all the people to say that to.
Finally to Mod being Communist. He is not making an impact being one, Americans have nothing to fear.
If this is indeed the final episode ever, then the ending of the episode was a nice way to finish off the series.

If this is the final episode then it was the first three finales that I finished in just a matter of hours (the others being The Omega Factor & Andromeda).

Another hilarious bit was Mod saying "if that is even your real name", only for Dangerous to retort, "Mod, just go wait in the car will you?"
