I think for the show to thrive it needs a Doctor not entirely .. knowing of his characters. Im not saying he distrusts them, but they have something about them unknown or that he dosnt relate to.
The main issue I have with the character of Rose is that she in the Doctor are very alike in some ways. Thats not a bad thing but it's easy to see how a character like Adam can rock the boat and provide a contrast. For me its the Contrast between characters that builds a character. Id love to see the new Doctor's regeneration react a little off to Rose, to show that what she had with the previous regen isnt neccesarily what she will have with this Doctor.
Leela performed that role not in the fact the Audience didnt like her, but because her ways were not the doctors ways. Janis Thorns, a preference for Weaponary, Fighting etc. Note that the Doctor did starting rubbing off on Leela.. ie her actions in the Invasion of Time and her decision to stay on Gallifrey! of all places. Now THAT was a wacky choice.
But I agree with the previous poster. I think most people are blind to everyone else but Rose at the moment |

Considering Billie Piper's previous pop-princess career (try saying that 5 times fast!) I was in no way excited when I heard she had been cast as Rose. But credit where credit is due, she is doing an amazing job. Not only does her character have more depth than any previous companion (thanks to the regular inclusion of her family etc.) but I love the fact that she doesn't turn into a screaming mess every time danger is afoot (SJS anyone??!!).
Best companion ever, you bet. |

thank you. nice to know someone agrees with me on this!
I don't know any companions prior to Jo well enough to judge them. of those I know Billie is easily top five alongside Ace (up to and including the ninth New Adventure novel Love & War* - I have serious issues with her after that) and Bernice Summerfield.
*written by Paul Cornell who also wrote Father's Day. |

I really like the character of Rose. I didn't get to see much of the previous series of Dr Who. But I like Rose and Captain Jack and the Doctor who has just left us.  |

| I think this poll suffers from a "jump" in magnitude. If someone considers her outside the top five, it may be a little insulting to compare her to Adric. On the other hand, if someone really likes Adric, it poses some questions. Perhaps it should be a rating poll or a "best", "very good", "good" etc. poll. |

| My Greatest disappointment in the last series was that they didn't kill Rose off. I REALLY REALLY could not stand her. Give me Adric, give me Mel give me Kamellion any day over Rose. |

Sarah was only in it for three and a bit seasons. She initally did 18 stories - plus two returns - which is not bad, but it certainly is not the record.
