Before Doctor Who my main show of interest was Get Smart.
Don't tell me I am the only one here who loves Get Smart.
Among my favourite episodes was when Max and 99 were in this ship captained by a one-legged captain with a Chinese manservant as well as the ones about an actor who was about to give information to CONTROL before being shot. This also featured a very funny phone conversation.
A favourite line would be when Siegfried had apparently defected and as Max tells the Chief about the meeting with Siegfried, The Chief says, "If this is a trap and we get killed you're fired."
The Simpsons even had a parody of it in the title sequence with Homer copying Max in entering CONTROL headquarters.
Don Adams (Maxwell Smart) would later voice Inspector Gadget. My mother had told me upon seeing Don Adams as Max on TV that he is the voice of Inspector Gadget a very long time ago.
I think it was in 2002 that I found out there was actually an update series on Get Smart in 1995. Here's a description from TV.com:
"Andy Dick plays the son of Maxwell Smart in this short-lived 90's update of the classic spy spoof. Teamed with the relunctant Agent 66, they try to stop KAOS from controlling the world's economy (after the Cold War, they had to lower their standards). Also working for the good guys was Trudy, the 90's equivalent of Larabee; Agent 13, a master of disguise; and the chief, Maxwell Smart. Barbera Feldon also made a handful of appearances as Agent 99, now a politician. "
This lasted for seven episodes because apparently not enough people knew that it was on. I certainly don't remember ever being shown on Australian television because I would definitely have watched it. So has anyone seen it?
Recently I finished watching the Get Smart Again! DVD. Can't believe how much I missed Max but eerie that the first we see of him here was at a funeral considering the fact that Don Adams only passed away five months ago. Noticed for the first the mention of THRUSH, the evil organisation from The Man From UNCLE. Curiously enough THRUSH was mentioned by 99 and Barbara Feldon (99) herself had appeared in The Man From UNCLE episode The Never, Never Affair which was aired six months before the debut of Get Smart.
On the weekend I happened to find an old tape of old recordings from the TV series that I completely forgotten about. The episodes that were recorded were the first episode (the first time we see the cone of silence is still very hilarious), the episode that introduced Harry Hoo, a KAOS agent reprogramming Hymie, the Casablanca episode and Max becoming chief negotiator of the union for CONTROL agents after the death of a fellow agent.
As for the Casablanca episode I actually mentioned this episode months at a film tutorial at uni after seeing Casablanca the Humphrey Bogart movie earlier in the day. As I mentioned before I forgotten I had that episode until the weekend.
Now I know I have the episode in which the Chief gets kidnapped and is placed in a freezer on another tape, but so far I have not been able to find it.
Now here's a confession I actually copy something out of Get Smart. In the episode when Max and The Chief were drafted into the Navy they soon find out that it was specially arranged by KAOS. When they went to see the first officer (I think) and asked him if they could see the captain, he refused. The first officer changed his mind only because Max took his cap out of his head and threw it away.
Years ago when I was in high school I had a very bad time as I got teased at. For one of the boys who teased me I did what Max did in that episode and took his hat and threw it away. Did this a couple of times that the next time he saw me he actually took off his hat himself before I had a chance to throw it away again. Don't know if he ever figured out how I got the idea of throwing his hat away.
As to the future of Get Smart, there is movie sceduled to be released this year (according to IMDb) with Steve Carrell as Max.
If the movie does get made it would be interesting to see how Carrell performs in the part. |

My favourite episode has always been Hymie. Although I can't really remember too many nowadays.
My favourite joke has to be:
Cheif: No we can't do an interveiw!
Max: Why not?!
The CIA is in the paper every week, the FBI has it's own tv show. . Control is the only secret organisation nobody's ever heard of. |

every body loves get smart.
I always liked the Doctor Yes episode he had about five hench people who would each say yes in their respective language...
And anything with Seigfried and Shtarker were great.
An early episode has Lenard Nimoy as a Kaos killer, while later episodes had cameos from other famous "Spies" Martin Landau (Mission Impossible) and Robert Culp (I Spy)
The short lived mid90's series is apparently crap except for an episode where Max's son meet's Seigfried's daughter they discuss the difficulties of having spies for parents. Seigfried's daughter reveals that her father used to claim he was a doctor on a cruise ship....
After Get Smart Seigfried Actor Bernie Kopal joined the crew of the Pacific Princess on The Love Boat as the ships doctor! |

Martin Landau's then wife and Mission: Impossible & Space: 1999 co-star Barbara Bain had appeared in an earlier episode.
Don Adams did a guest stint on The Love Boat but did not share any screen time with Bernie. |

I used to watch Get Smart religiously as a kid. I wanted to be 99, she was so cool.
My favorite Get Smart jokes would have to be:
"Everything up to: now listen carefully"
and
99: Was the Cheif always bald?
Max: No, but he lost all his hair soon after I started working here.
And does any one else think it is an increadible coincidence that George W Bush looks like Larraby (spelling)? |

Neither have I.
Robert Karvelas who played Larrabee is actually Don Adams' cousin.
There was this definitely this hatred between the Chief and Larrabee.
For instance:
- In one episode when Max and the Chief was talking, a gunshot narrowly misses the Chief. We then see Larrabee complaining to someone that he made him missed his shot.
- In the episode with the man-eating plant, The Chief tells Larrabee that he can put it right next to his desk.
I should also have mentioned in my previous post that I love it when Siegfriend says to Shtarker: "This is KAOS we don't [INSERT WHAT NOT TO DO] here." |

Just some hours ago I saw the Diagnosis Murder episode Georgia On the Mind when Get Smart got a mention: Dr. Jack Stewart (Scott Baio) mentioned Get Smart as one of the last things to think about before death.
Note: This episode of Diagnosis Murder guest stars Daphne Ashbrook and Glynis Barber. |

| Just a few days ago I had been thinking of Jeffrey Tambor as the Chief for the movie as I had this image in my head of him saying, "Raise the cone of silence". |

| In yesterday's Einstein Factor, one of the contestants Diana Hazelwood had Get Smart as her special subject. Host Peter Berner makes a brief impersonation of Max while one of the Brians Trust, Jean Kitson says the line "Miss it by that much". Unfortunately Diana lost at the end as she didn't answer any of the questions in the final round. |

Maxwell Smart was briefly mentioned in yesterday's Einstein Factor as Peter Berner comments that Max was one of the subjects that Kevin who beat Diana earlier, had beaten in order to be back for yesterday's show. |

Just as Barbara Feldon is about to be seen in Where Are They Now hours from now, coincidentally this morning I read about Don Adams' cartoon series Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales in an encyclopaedia of Daytime Television. In this cartoon he played the title character prior to becoming Maxwell Smart. Tennessee Tuxedo is a penguin and from what I read it would be interesting to have a look at this cartoon one day. |

Finished watching that program yesterday. She looks fantastic. She says that she does not watch the show since she always slouches and revealed that 99 was originally going to be called. It became 99 instead as there was nothing romantic about 100 as well to give the character the highest number to reflect her intelligence. She also says that the CIA tried to implement the ideas that came out of the show. She sang the 99 song which is the first time I ever heard about it. I didn't like it.
Co-host David Koch mentioned Don Adams' passing last year and that Barbara now lives alone and has written a book called Living Alone and Loving It. Nice pun on the title. |

Recently I began rereading the Doctor Who novel Corpse Marker by Chris Boucher when I noticed the following sentence:
"He strode off his shoes ringing dully on the highly polished floor."
Shoes ringing. Does this mean that Chris Boucher is a Get Smart fan? |
